Spun from hardy Icelandic wool, Léttlopi yarn is perfect for sweaters that can be worn indoors and out like the traditional Lopi sweater or lopapeysa. Léttlopi yarn has a lofty construction that traps insulating air, knits beautifully, and is practically waterproof. It's not the softest yarn, but I've found I can comfortably wear my lopapeysa over a short-sleeved tee with no itch (you may feel differently).

Sheep were first brought to the small island in the middle of the north Atlantic ocean by Viking settlers in 874 and have provided a source of livelihood to the people of Iceland ever since. Iceland's remote location, along with an embargo on bringing livestock to the island, have created a dual-coated breed of sheep that is unique to Iceland. During the warmer months the sheep are given free range of the island, then a large community of Icelanders comes together to herd the sheep to shearing and warm stables for winter.
