Summer Block Party

Warmer weather is on the way, but that doesn't mean it's time to stop knitting! Join our Summer Block Party Mystery KAL and knit afghan squares to create a cozy afghan for when cooler days return. Lightweight and portable, afghan squares are the perfect project for knitting on the road.

Over the next 4 months our fearless guides Trish Mitberg and Steffanie Colvig will release a new block pattern "clue" in this space every two weeks. (Hardcopies will also be available at the shop.) These 8 mystery block patterns will combine with 8 garter stitch blocks for a 16 square blanket. You can knit each block individually, or you can knit them in continuous strips. Follow our diagram below, or arrange them how you like. At the end of summer, we'll host a seaming party at the shop where Trish and Steff will teach you how to piece your blocks together. Too much fun!

Want to play? Here's what you'll need:

Yarn: Choose a nice worsted weight yarn, about 1200 grams total. Trish and Steff are both using 4 colors, but you could use as few as one color and as many as sixteen. Each block takes roughly 65 grams of worsted weight wool, so if you are using 4 colors you will need approx 300 grams of each color.

Some good yarn choices include Cascade 220, Cascade 220 Superwash, Berroco Vintage, Spud & Chloe Sweater, Berroco Remix, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Plymouth Encore and Malabrigo Rios or Worsted. Stop by the shop, we're always happy to help you find the perfect yarn.

Needles: US size #7-8 needle, or a size that gives you a nice fabric with the yarn you've chosen. Our gauge is roughly 4.5 sts per inch in garter stitch.

We'll kick things off with a meet up at the Bee and the release of our first clue on the afternoon of Saturday, May 10th from 1:30pm-3:30pm. Join us!
